Spain

Spain is one of the healthiest places in Europe to live according to the report published by the World Health Organization in 2000

The warm climate on the Costa Blanca generally helps people with a variety of conditions lead a healthier and more comfortable lifestyle. Rheumatism and Arthiritis sufferrers frequently find huge improvements in mobility and those suffering from stress also find the relaxing Mediterranean lifestyle a huge benefit. The sunnier climate overall makes people feel happier and boosts their immune system.

As you can see Spain is ranked 7th in the world in terms of health care, with the U.K. coming in at 18th place. This fact has been helped greatly by the Spanish health system itself, which has undergone a series of radical improvements over the last 20 years.

Most important of the changes was the creation of a National Public Health Service based in part on the British NHS. Every citizen has the right to the best, highest quality health care free of charge.

Healthcare comes in two ‘Levels’ - Primary Healthcare and the Specialist Care dealt with by special hospitals in each region. All forms of medical care are free, with shorter waiting lists than those experienced in the U.K. The use of generic pharmaceuticals means that the price of prescriptions have also greatly decreased, compared to the U.K.

All this has meant that Spain has one of the best medical systems in Europe, in terms of quality and speed of the services it offers. For this reason the World Health Organization placed Spain 7th in the World, far above the U.K. and U.S.A., With the American System prevously thought to be best in the world. http://www.photius.com/rankings/healthranks.html
